“Oh, you remember Teresa from high school, right Samuel?”

Samuel checked out Teresa whose resting bitch face was as strong as it had been since he had came into her field of vision. He examined her for a little while longer and it hit him that she did in fact go to high school with her. He remembered her being in his ninth grade P.E class, his tenth grade woodshop class, and in his college career class in 12th grade. Outside of a few things, she had not changed at all.

“Yeah.” Samuel said as he stared at Teresa with his motu agape. “I do.”

“Been a long time.” Teresa said, her resting bitch face not changing it’s expression. Not one iota.

“For sure. How’s it been?’

“Like you care.”

An uncomfortable silence arose and spread across the table. Samuel sat there, in the dark about what to do with Teresa’s mood. From his point of view Teresa looked as though she was unfazed by the interaction.

“I mean, I do.” Samuel stated. “Why wouldn’t I?”

“Not hearing from you after all these years makes that hard to believe.”

“Anyway!” Karina interjected. “Did you guys see that meteor shower from last night?”

After the lunch was over most of the group went their separate ways. Samuel hung back with Karina right outside of the café. Samuel could not stop the dreamlike smile that spread across his face when he locked eyes with Karina. Her eyes were bright and the way the wind hit her hair was angelic.

“Well, I appreciate that you paid for me.” Samuel told Karina. He found it impossible to hide his smile.

“Hey, I invited you.” Karina said. “Would have been rude if I didn’t.”

“You’ve definitely have always had manners.”

“Yeah, sorry for all that. Teresa can be a little excitable.”

“Hey, that can be a good thing.”

“Yeah.” Karina said with innocent smile. “I guess so. Nice to see you open minded about this.”

“I try.”

“I know it’s not easy. You were always a little bit of a cold duck.”

“What can I say when I’m around someone like you?”

That made Karina turn her face away to the right a blush a little. Samuel caught this and he did his best to not burst out with a large smile on his face. Karina looked back at him and her soft face warmed any coldness that remained in him.

“So, I’ll see you around?” Samuel asked.

“Yeah, I’d like that.” Karina answered. “Hit me up.”

Samuel and Karina embraced each other before Karina walked away. Samuel lingered on Karina, stuck on her backside until he began to walk into the opposite direction. Even after a few minutes his thoughts were filled what the moment prior and what could be.

“Yeah, yeah I’m coming.” Teresa said. The thing was that Samuel could not see her at all. He looked around until he saw that she was cutting through the back alleys with a quick pace.

“I know what we got going on.” Teresa told whoever she was talking to on her cellphone.

Samuel decided to follow Teresa into the back alley.
